Kelowna, BC Spatial Load Forecasting
Spatial load forecasting drives planning initiatives for utility developers. Primary developed a 20-year picture of the load growth on an acre-by-acre basis. Spatial forecasting has the benefit of visually showing where load will occur in addition to how much. The Kelowna spatial forecast used a hybrid simulation-trending model to predict future loads. It models both the change in number of customers and the change in per capita consumption. Load curve profiles were calculated for each customer class and applied to the load growth models. Zoning, agriculture land reserve maps, official community plan maps, transportation networks, and geographical features were used to create the land simulation model.
