Project Description
The Bernard Block project is a key urban development in Kelowna, BC. In partnership with Mission Group and FortisBC, Primary provided innovative utility solutions, including engineering both the utility-owned switchgear and the customer-owned unit substation, along with distribution upgrades to power a high-rise in the city’s core. Completed in 2023, the project showcased Primary’s expertise in delivering critical utilities for complex developments.

Urban Utility Upgrades: Successfully designed and implemented utility distribution feeder upgrades in a densely populated area, overcoming significant logistical challenges.
Custom Substation Engineering: Engineered and constructed a custom unit substation to meet FortisBC's stringent interconnection standards, supporting a total building load of approximately 4.5 MVA (megavolt-amperes).
Strategic Equipment Placement: Collaborated closely with the client to identify and maximize on-site real estate for equipment installation, ensuring efficiency and seamless integration.
Comprehensive Technical Services: Delivered end-to-end engineering support, including specifications development, tendering, fault-level analysis, protection settings, and grounding system assessments, ensuring full regulatory compliance.
