We have an opening for a Hydro Advisory Team Lead in our Mississauga office. We are seeking an individual experienced in the electric utility industry as it relates to Land Development in Southern Ontario. The ideal candidate has a deep understanding of Ontario’s development processes, extensive experience with electrical utilities, and has a proactive approach to solving complex challenges.

Responsibilities:

Client Relationships:

  • Manage and oversee projects throughout the development lifecycle, from planning to completion.
  • Develop strategies for developers to engage with utilities, ensuring cost-effective and timely solutions.
  • Proactively consult and develop solutions for clients to suit their business needs.
  • Identify and implement innovative solutions to resolve project roadblocks and ensure progress.
  • Work with the team to seek out, develop, and maintain relationships with developers and clients.
  • Build trust and credibility with counterparts in the industry to drive collaboration and successful outcomes.

Project Execution:

  • Work with architectural and civil firms, contractors, municipal authorities, and other stakeholders ensuring alignment with project requirements.
  • Coordinate or complete electrical, lighting, and traffic signal designs while adhering to the Distribution System Code.
  • Oversee and manage utility design and construction processes, ensuring seamless integration into project timelines.
  • As required, perform peer/stage reviews of redline, IFR, and IFC design packages.
  • Attend and lead off-site meetings and site checks as required.
  • Lead design, tendering, and construction administration activities for projects.
  • Review and approve technical drawings and tender documents.
  • Provide technical support during construction and resolve project challenges proactively.
  • Analyze and produce financial and schedule reporting for projects as needed.

Minimum Qualifications and Qualities:

  • Minimum 10+ years of experience in the development / hydro industry.
  • Experience with the design, tendering, and construction administration scopes of electrical, lighting, and traffic signal projects.
  • Understanding of the Distribution System Code and the Ontario Electrical Safety Code.
  • Attention to detail, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage competing priorities with schedule and budget constraints.
  • Client-focused interpersonal skills with the ability to develop strong business relationships with counterparts in the industry.
  • Proficient verbal and written English language skills.
  • Experience coordinating with utilities and their design and construction process.
  • Commitment to safety and ethical practices.

Additional Assets:

  • Electrical Engineering Technology Diploma or Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering from a recognized college or university.
  • PMP designation through PMI Institute.
  • Electrical distribution, substation, transmission, and Street lighting design experience (both underground and overhead).
  • Experience in residential and commercial subdivision site servicing from participating in a utility turnkey program.
  • Experience with AutoCAD, ArcFM, or AGI32 software packages.
  • Experience with the development process.
  • Experience with the Hydro (LDC) processes in Southern Ontario.
  • Experience with the coordination of the utilities for development projects in Southern Ontario.
  • Experience with the construction of Roads, Wet utilities, hydro, and lighting installations.
  • Experience with managing high volume of projects, managing client expectations, and obtaining solutions and results with governing bodies.
