We currently have an opening for a Project Engineer in either Edmonton, Red Deer or Calgary, AB, with Edmonton or Red Deer being the preferred locations. This is a position available for remote work from the reporting office.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the overall execution of underground/overhead electrical distribution and street lighting turnkey design build projects (4kV to 25kV).
  • Collect and review pertinent background information to inform design.
  • Create alignment plans, survey plans, easement plans and other preliminary deliverables for review.
  • Compile specifications and issue requests for third party services including survey, geotechnical review, grounding studies, brushing requests, constructability reviews, environmental assessments, and easement applications.
  • Perform detailed overhead line design calculations and modelling of various structures.
  • Perform detailed underground distribution design calculations and modelling.
  • Draft, or oversee drafting, of required construction prints per customer requirements.
  • Provide exceptional customer service in the form of prompt responses, courteous discourse, honest interaction, and proactive communication.
  • Coordinate designs with customers, landowners, approving bodies, and other stakeholders.
  • Compile and submit permitting and approvals packages.
  • Accountable for the on-budget and on-schedule delivery of concurrent turnkey projects from client engagement through design and construction to energization while maintaining a high degree of quality.
  • Preparation of takeoffs, estimates and proposals inclusive of engineering, materials procurement, and construction for turnkey projects.
  • Management of materials inventory.
  • Occasional off-site meetings, site visits and field inspections.
  • Coordination with customers, municipal authorities, other utilities and various projects stakeholders for project execution.
  • Project schedule, cost and communication management and reporting.
  • Proactively consult and develop solutions for clients to suit their business needs.
  • Clearly communicate with clients and project stakeholders to mitigate project risks and expectations.
  • Project acquisition, sales and customer relationship building.
  • Peer mentoring and training with other team members.
  • Other duties as required.

Qualifications:

  • Electrical Engineering Technology Diploma or Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering from a recognized college or university or equivalent education/experience.
  • PMP designation through PMI Institute are considered an asset.
  • Experience with FortisAlberta, ATCO, ENMAX, EPCOR or other utility a preferred asset.
  • Experience with AutoCAD, Microstation, PLS-CADD, ArcFM or AGI32 software packages are considered an asset.

A few qualifications that will help you succeed:

  • Electrical distribution, substation, transmission, or street lighting design experience (both underground and overhead).
  • Strong attention to detail, problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage competing priorities with schedule and budget constraints.
  • Client focused interpersonal skills with the ability to develop strong business relationships.
  • Proficient verbal and written English language skills.
  • Confident collaborative skills and willingness to liaise with other disciplines.
  • Commitment to safety and ethical practices.
