We have an opening for an OSP Telecommunications Drafter in our Calgary Office. You will be responsible for producing design drawings for Telecommunications projects.

 Objective:

The OSP Drafter produces high quality brownfield & greenfield civil, copper, coax & fibre plans in timely manner using available red line mark up, design architecture, and company’s current processes and procedures. The OSP Drafter is required to maintain effective and professional relationship with Telus & Shaw Designers while closely coordinating the work during the design process.

Key Challenges:

  • Deliver high quality of design drawings while maintaining efficiency
  • Must be able to interpret redline mark up produced by the Designer within minimal errors and revisions

Your daily work:

  • Produce civil, copper, coaxial & fibre drawings using SpatialNET, AutoCAD and MicroStation;
  • Minimize drafting errors through constant communication with the Designer;
  • Utilize all available tools to maintain high volume work output;
  • Escalate difficult issues as required to prevent delays in deliverables;
  • Ensure that all drawings produced adhere to Telus & Shaw drafting standards and specifications;
  • Review own drawings for content and accuracy prior to issuing to the Designer for review;
  • Keep up to date with advances in SpatialNET design tools and latest Telus & Shaw design architecture;
  • Adhere to company’s approved processes and procedures;
  • Train team members;
  • Monitor current workloads and develop realistic action plans while being sensitive to time constraints and resource availability;
  • Other duties as required.

You must have:

  • Minimum of 3-5 years industry experience and knowledge of Telus & Shaw design and drafting standards;
  • AutoCAD and MicroStation Drafting Certificate is a must;
  • Advance knowledge of SpatialNET, AutoCAD (2D & 3D) and MicroStation is a must;
  • Basic knowledge of fibre, copper, coaxial & civil design is an asset;
  • Must be able to interpret block profiles & deep utilities design drawings (Civil 3D);
  • Knowledge of URD design standards is an asset;
  • Must be able to interpret electrical distribution design drawings;
  • Knowledge of Calgary ULA process and drafting standards;
  • Understanding of splicing techniques in SpatialNET;
  • Time management and task prioritization skills;
  • Ability to QA own drawings for content and accuracy in accordance with the latest Telus & Shaw design architecture;
  • Demonstrate high attention to detail and pride in their work;
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills;
  • Demonstrate strong English language proficiency;
  • Ability to perform work independently with minimal supervision;
  • Self-motivated, confident, energetic and creative;
  • Ability to handle heavy workload & competing priorities and can work well under pressure;
  • Ability to train, coach and share job knowledge with team members.
