Mike became President of Primary in January 2019 after serving as vice-president of the company’s Alberta engineering division. He holds a BSc in Electrical Engineering from McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario and has more than 30 years of experience in the electrical industry.

Mike joined Primary in 2013 after successful campaigns with ENMAX, TransAlta and EnerSource Mississauga Hydro (now Alectra Utilities) where his responsibilities included project management, distribution planning, system operations, strategic planning, and emergency response management.

Mike considers himself lucky to have two families: the one he moved from Ontario to Calgary in 1998, and the family he has at Primary. That family extends to the clients that Primary has fostered relationships with over the years. As president, Mike loves nothing better than taking a problem off a client’s desk. With Primary’s expert team of problem-solvers, they excel at taking on whatever’s needed to get the project done right. Outside of the office, Mike enjoys hitting the slopes and spending time with family (the non-Primary side) at his cottage in Ontario.

Chief Financial Officer

Chief Financial Officer

As our Chief Financial Officer, Greg is responsible for all of Primary’s financial functions, including accounting, audit, treasury, corporate finance and investor relations. Greg holds a Business and Entrepreneurship degree from Mount Royal University and has earned his CMA and CPA designations. He brings more than 15 years of fiscal management, financial strategy and accounting experience to his current role.

Prior to joining Primary in 2008, Greg honed his financial and accounting talents with the Alberta Shock Trauma Air Rescue Service (STARS). His experience with STARS allowed him to see the value of teamwork in action, and he strives to bring a similar people-focused culture to Primary. Greg’s motto is “If you just go to work and prove yourself, it speaks volumes” and his dedication shows with the coordination of our nine offices across Canada.

Greg is the proud father of four children and his weekends are often spent in hockey arenas and on the sidelines at soccer games. He also finds time to play rec hockey where he prides himself as a defensive-minded specialist who is always looking out for his teammates.

Vice President, Alberta Engineering

Vice President, Alberta Engineering

James brings more than 15 years of experience to his role of Vice President of the Alberta Engineering division. He also acts as VP for several of Primary’s engineering and design-build teams in both Calgary and Edmonton. He has a degree in Electrical Engineering Technology from SAIT and is a Professional Licensee from the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA).

James has come a long way from wiring home electronics and car stereos as a teenager. After joining Primary in 2005 as a junior designer, he built a solid reputation as an expert utility engineering consultant and power line systems designer (both underground and overhead) before joining the management team. James takes great pride is seeing his original designs come to life, evolving from spec drawings to projects that are still in operation today.

In his spare time, James remains active in his children’s activities, including soccer and hockey. He is also a DIY enthusiast and enjoys home renovation projects and woodworking.

Vice President, Business Development

As Vice President of Business Development, Joseph is responsible for fostering growth opportunities in new and existing sectors across the organization. He holds a B.Eng. in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from the University of Victoria.

Joseph joined Primary in 2010 as an Engineer-in-Training and has never looked back. He quickly rose through the ranks to become Project Manager of the successful BC Hydro Customer Build Program and eventually graduated to Vice President of B.C Operations. Throughout his time with Primary, Joseph has taken tremendous satisfaction from turning Primary’s clients into repeat customers.

In his spare time, Joseph is an avid BMX rider who competes around the world.

Vice President, Central Canada Operations

Vice President, Central Canada Operations

As Vice President of our Central Canada Operations, Vlad oversees all of Primary’s projects in Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Ontario. He holds a degree in Electrical Engineering from Lviv Polytechnic National University and a MBA from Lviv Institute of Management.

Vlad followed in his father’s footsteps by studying electrical engineering in his native Ukraine. He worked in a power plant before immigrating to Canada in 2001. After joining SaskPower as a power plant electrical engineer, he eventually became Region Engineering Supervisor for the company’s Tranmission & Distribution businesss unit. Vlad joined Primary in 2013 as Manager of Operations in Saskatchewan. He was promoted to VP of Saskatchewan and Manitoba Operations before taking on an expanded role of VP of Central Canada in late 2020. Vlad takes great pride in mentoring people, and seeing projects come to life, whether they be a collection of overhead powerlines or a new residential development.

In his spare time, Vlad enjoys spending time outdoors, which includes hiking and working on his acreage.  

Vice President, BC Operations

Vice President, BC Operations

As Vice President of Primary’s B.C. Operations, Jesse manages and empowers the five departments that make up our B.C. division. Jesse was promoted to his current role in 2021 after previously serving as Director of Interior Operations and Manager of our Kelowna Operations. Jesse holds a B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Calgary and is an accredited engineer in both Alberta and B.C.

Following high school, Jesse considered studying astrophysics before choosing a future in electrical engineering. When he heard from classmates that it was a difficult engineering field, Jesse felt driven by the challenge. After University, Jesse worked at General Electric before finding a home at Primary’s Calgary office in 2008 as an engineer-in-training. Jesse’s entrepreneurial spirit has contributed to Primary’s growth, including starting a group responsible for substations and transmission projects.

In his down time, Jesse enjoys spending time with his three children, which includes soccer and remote-control monster trucks. He also enjoys hiking, working with computers and being active in his local church.

Manager, Saskatchewan Design



Maham graduated from University of Saskatchewan in 2015 with Masters in Business Administration. Prior to MBA, she completed her Masters in Electrical Engineering in 2013 and is affiliated with the Association of Professional Engineering and Geoscientists Saskatchewan. She joined Primary in the fall of 2013 as a Junior Business Engineer and quickly demonstrated great ability to learn, grow and manage responsibilities.

She has been involved in many electrical distribution projects for public owned utilities and private customers. Her expertise are in planning, scheduling, budgeting and executing projects through a team of electrical designers, drafter, field expeditors and project support personnel. Maham has demonstrated a solid understanding of the business principles, customer value proposition and professional excellence. In February of 2019, she stepped up to take on a role of Manager, SK Design.

Manager, Winnipeg Operations

Manager, Winnipeg Operations

Ben joined Primary in 2019 as Manager of our Winnipeg operations. He holds a BSc in Mathematics and Engineering from Queen’s University and is a registered Professional Engineer in Manitoba, Saskatchewan, British Columbia, and Ontario.

Ben was born and raised in Winnipeg, and his career has taken him across Canada (including assignments in Halifax, Vancouver and Regina), so it seems only fitting that he returns to his hometown. Ben’s experience spans the fields of transmission, substation, and distribution systems. He has been involved at all levels of a project life cycle, including planning studies, design, construction supervision, and commissioning. Ben enjoys serving the needs of his clients and engaging with his colleagues in the various provincial offices.

In his downtime, Ben enjoys playing golf and serving on the board of directors for his local baseball organization.

Manager, Edmonton Operations


Manager, Edmonton - Operations

Jordan is a task-driven project manager with a strong propensity for superior customer service. He has operated for  two years under BC Hydro’s Customer Build program, working to deliver solid URD turnkey solutions to developers and advocating on their behalf with local municipalities and utilities. Jordan's specialties include: Railways Signals and Communications, Distribution Planning and oilfield research and product development. Jordan joined Primary in 2015 after a year as a field engineer in oil-well services and industrial motor and VFD applications.

In the spring of 2017 Jordan returned to Edmonton to take on the task of opening Primary’s new branch office and building a team capable of delivering superior EPCM services to developers and local utilities.

Manager, Alberta Design

Manager, Alberta Design

Edward manages the day to day operations of the Calgary design team and is also responsible for designing projects for various clients. He holds a diploma in Electrical Engineering Technology and a Management Certificate from the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT). He also has Professional Licensee status with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA).

Edward followed in his father’s footsteps by entering the electrical engineering field. With more than 14 years of electrical design experience, he enjoys the wide range of projects that benefit Calgarians, including power feeds for schools, hospitals, and airports.

When he’s not busy with electrical design, Edward enjoys spending time with his family. His hobbies include golf, hockey, travelling and cooking. Edward is also involved in mentoring new immigrants who want to learn about Western workplace practices.

Director, Project Delivery


Director, Project Delivery

Peter is an Electrical Engineering graduate from the University of British Columbia with over 34 years of progressive experience in the management of power utilities, telecommunications, network management, information technology, and operational support projects. He held leadership roles in the design and deployment of telecommunications products and services, as well as in the design and construction of substations and transmission lines and asset maintenance. 

Peter joined Primary in early 2018 as the Manager for Developer Services and was promoted to Director, Project Delivery in 2019.

Manager, Calgary Design Build


Manager, Calgary Design Build

With over 10 years experience, Jason knows how to guide complex projects to completion and facilitate collaboration across the entire project team. He is a leader in effective stakeholder consultation and engagement, and the interplay of multiple engineering disciplines as part of the design and construction process. This has helped him develop the ability to work with a diverse range of client groups, consultants and contractors to oversee any project through all stages of execution.

His project highlights include various overhead and underground electrical distribution systems for multiple utility stakeholders, along with the CrossIron Mills subdivision (Rocky View County) and the Deerfoot North commercial area (Calgary Airport Authority), which was the first subdivision to boast large-scale LED street lighting within the City of Calgary.

FERDINAND SABANDO Telecommunications Manager, Calgary Operations


Ferdinand holds a Bachelor in Civil Engineering Degree from the Philippines and has over 23 years of experience in Telecom Outside Plant design and construction. His work experiences are in Philippines, Saudi Arabia and Canada.

Ferdinand is currently the Telecommunications Manager of Primary Engineering Alberta operations and was able to complete over 900 telecom design projects in 3 years. He manages a team of 12 and makes the complex and critical telecom design decisions that can only come from years of experience

Manager, Customer Build Operations


Manager, Customer Build Operations

Anthony was born and raised in the interior of British Columbia and holds a B.Sc. in Mathematics from the University of British Columbia. Upon completing his degree, he began his career with British Columbia Transmission Corporation and BC Hydro, where he obtained his PMP designation.  

During his 19 years at BC Hydro, Anthony held various professional and management positions, focusing on project and program management. He was able to apply his change leadership and analytic thinking through various initiatives across multiple lines of business across Transmission, Distribution, Project Delivery and Indigenous Relations. 

Anthony joined Primary Engineering at the start of 2019 as Manager of Customer Build Operations, where he has been leading the department’s continued customer focus and turnkey customer build strategy. He enjoys working with customers where he can apply his wealth of project and program management experience.

Senior Project Manager


Senior Project Manager

Kevin is native to Alberta and has also lived in British Columbia for ten years. Kevin is a graduate of both the University of Calgary and SAIT. After graduating from the U of C with a B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering, he enjoyed nine years with TransAlta Utilities serving as Electrical Substation Engineer, Distribution Engineer and finally as Supervisor of Project Consulting. Kevin then joined FortisBC serving as Regional Manager, responsible for planning, design, and construction of substation, transmission, and distribution of high voltage electric infrastructure for the Okanagan Region in British Columbia. In 2003, Kevin joined ENMAX Power Corporation in Calgary and was responsible for all distribution customer and system upgrade projects. In addition to many regulatory responsibilities, Kevin enjoyed service on the 4-Party Steering Committee, as well as the 4-Party Technical Committee. Both committees have a combined responsibility for continuous improvement in shallow utility provisioning (Power, Communications, Gas).

Kevin joined Primary in 2006 as Manager of B.C. Operations and Corporate Development and in 2011, became President. In January 201, Kevin stepped back to take on the role of Senior Project Manager. Kevin is proficient at project management, process development, underground utility design, and overhead utility design, utilizing PLS-CADD Design Software.

Manager, Victoria Operations


Manager, Victoria Operations

Born and raised on Vancouver Island, Geoff joined Primary in 2011 from a background in electrical consulting specializing in roadway lighting and transportation.

Participating in BC Hydro's underground residential power distribution pilot project, Geoff continues to contribute to the evolution of the program now known as Customer-Build. In 2014, Geoff led a team to certify Primary under APEGBC's Organizational Quality Management (OQM) Program.

Manager, Telecommunications SK

Manager, Telecommunications SK

Matthew joined the Primary team in 2016. As Manager of Telecommunications, SK, he is responsible for all of our telecommunications activity in Saskatchewan. Matthew graduated with honours from King’s College, London, in 2004, holds a project management diploma from UC Irvine, in California, and has his Project Management Professional designation with PMI.

Matthew’s passion for telecommunications began in grade school when he was first introduced to the internet. The idea of interconnected really appealed to him, and it wasn’t long before Matthew was working on a fibre optic project between London, Paris and Frankfurt. His wealth of experience includes trunk and distribution design and planning, permitting, and construction management for various companies including BH Telecom, FlexNetworks, Shaw Communications, Access, Zayo, Rogers, SaskTel, and TELUS.

In his spare time, Matthew enjoys spending time with his family, which includes camping and fishing. He is also a Foster Parent, a Volunteer Medial First Responder, and donates his time to the North Central Family Centre.

MATT HOWELL Construction Manager

Construction Manager

One of Matt’s favourite quotes is “A problem is always a chance to do your best.” Matt is all about solving problems.  As Construction Manager, he manages the day-to -day construction operations including scheduling, budgeting, contracts and recruitment to ensure a safe work environment for our team. He holds a diploma in Civil Engineering from the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT).

Matt joined Primary in 2011 as a Construction Supervisor and was promoted to Construction Manager in 2014. Matt’s educational background in Civil Engineering and Construction Management has been the perfect complement for his leadership roles throughout his career. As a trusted expert in the powerline industry, Matt has developed key relationships with colleagues, suppliers and clients.

In his spare time, Matt enjoys camping, mountain biking, kayaking, travelling and cooking.

STEVE HENDERSON Construction Manager - PLT
Location: Calgary, Alberta


Construction Manager - PLT

As our manager of construction, Steven oversees 50 employees and maintains client relationships. He also serves as the Fortis Alberta Contract Manager. Steven holds a Journeyman Powerline Technician Certificate from the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT).

Steven followed in both his father and grandfather’s footsteps by becoming  a third-generation Journeyman Red Seal Powerline Technician. He joined Primary in 2007 and takes pride in inspiring others and seeing the growth in the team.  Steven is a firm believer in the Jim Rohn quote “leadership is the ability to get extraordinary achievement from ordinary people.”

Outside the office, Steven enjoys golf, baseball and hockey. He is also a volunteer for his hometown golf course, where he helps organize tournaments that benefit local charity and community groups.

TYLER FENTON Manager, Fleet & Field Services
Location: Calgary, Alberta


Manager, Fleet & Field Services 

As the Manager of Fleet, Tyler is responsible for procuring equipment and vehicles, as well as managing our fleet maintenance program. As the Manager of Field Services, Tyler uses the experience he has gained from managing large and small utility construction projects to recruit the right people to build successful field crews.

Tyler brings more than 15 years of experience in the underground utility construction industry. Tyler began his career as a labourer  and worked his way up to Operator, Foreman, Construction Supervisor before landing his current role at Primary.  He finds that every project is a new adventure and enjoys finding solutions and completing difficult projects. 

Tyler’s hobbies include rebuilding and riding old motorcycles, roping, camping with family. He also organizes a charity poker run on motorcycles called “Ride For Flights” - a Primary fundraiser to raise money for STARS Air Ambulance.

MARK GEDDES Manager, Health & Safety


Manager, Health & Safety

Mark is a focused leader who was born and raised in Alberta, Canada. His experience includes 10 years shared in the oil & gas and utility industries, with the last six focused on health and safety. Mark is the Health and Safety Manager for Primary Engineering and Construction Corporation and oversees the successful implementation of Primary’s health and safety program across Canada. He is also certified as a National Construction Safety Officer.
