KEVIN JONES P. Eng.
President, Board Member
Kevin is native to Alberta and has also lived in British Columbia for ten years. Kevin is a graduate of both the University of Calgary and SAIT. After graduating from the U of C with a B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering, he enjoyed nine years with TransAlta Utilities serving as Electrical Substation Engineer, Distribution Engineer and finally as Supervisor of Project Consulting. Kevin then joined FortisBC serving as Regional Manager, responsible for planning, design, and construction of substation, transmission, and distribution of high voltage electric infrastructure for the Okanagan Region in British Columbia. In 2003, Kevin joined ENMAX Power Corporation in Calgary and was responsible for all distribution customer and system upgrade projects. In addition to many regulatory responsibilities, Kevin enjoyed service on the 4-Party Steering Committee, as well as the 4-Party Technical Committee. Both committees have a combined responsibility for continuous improvement in shallow utility provisioning (Power, Communications, Gas).
Kevin joined Primary in 2006 as Manager of B.C. Operations and Corporate Development and in 2011, became President. Kevin is proficient at project management, process development, underground utility design, and overhead utility design, utilizing PLS-CADD Design Software.
GREG OHRN CMA, CPA, BBA
Greg Ohrn, brings over 15 years in diverse financial and business accounting experience to his role as Controller for Primary.
Greg is a native Calgarian and graduate of Mount Royal University where he completed his degree in Business and Entrepreneurship. Greg began his career at the Alberta Shock Trauma Air Rescue Society & Foundation (STARS) where he implemented accounting procedures and gave business direction to the foundation while reporting to the Board of Directors as well as several Federal and Provincial governing bodies.
Greg joined Primary in 2008 as Controller and in his tenure, completed his CMA and CPA designations. In his current role, Greg provides strategic and financial expertise while guiding the management team with recommendations to enhance financial performance and business opportunities.
MIKE WINDSOR P. Eng.
Vice President, Alberta Engineering
Mike lived in Ontario until he moved to Calgary, which has been home for Mike and his family since 1998. Mike is a graduate of McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario with a B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering.
Mike started his career in 1990 with Enersource Mississauga Hydro where he worked in a number of capacities including project management of a SCADA implementation and of distribution maintenance projects as well as supervising the system control centre.
Mike joined TransAlta Utilities in 1998 where he worked in the distribution planning area. In 1999, Mike joined ENMAX Power Corporation in Calgary where he had a number of different responsibilities including emergency response, system operations (both transmission and distribution), distribution system growth including system planning, customer projects, GIS mapping, fleet, trades training, survey/land management, contract management, strategic planning, 4-party utility underground residential planning and regulatory.
Mike joined Primary in 2013 as Manager of Calgary Design-Build. He moved to his current role as VP, Alberta Engineering in June of 2016.
JOSEPH KYLLO P. Eng.
Vice President, British Columbia Operations
Joseph Kyllo is a native of Calgary and has lived in British Columbia for nine years. Joseph graduated from the University of Victoria with a B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering. Upon graduation Joseph joined Primary as Electrical Engineer-in-Training; and the first full-time employee in Victoria.
Joseph was a project manager for Primary, piloting the BC Hydro Customer Build Program through its infancy. The pilot program on Vancouver Island was immensely popular with the development community which prompted BC Hydro to deploy the program to the Lower Mainland in late 2012.
Looking for a new challenge, Joseph expanded Primary's operations to the Lower Mainland, becoming Manager, Vancouver Operations and establishing a new office in October, 2012. Since then Joseph has helped establish the Lower Mainland office into a market leader in the industry, providing electrical distribution and lighting solutions to developers, utilities and municipalities. In 2017, Joseph was named Primary's Vice President of Operations for British Columbia .
VLAD BENDASYUK P. Eng., MBA
Vice President, Saskatchewan
Vlad immigrated to Canada and landed in Saskatchewan in 2001. He started his career with SaskPower Corporation shortly after as a power plant electrical engineer. In 2007 he joined the Transmission & Distribution (T&D) Business Unit of SaskPower, in the role of the Region Engineering Supervisor and was responsible for planning, design, maintenance of the distribution and sub-transmission systems for the Weyburn, SK region.
Vlad graduated with a degree in Electrical Engineering in 1994 and MBA in 1997, and worked for power utility in the Ukraine as a power plant electrical engineer for several years before immigrating to Canada. Vlad joined Primary in early 2013 as Manager of Saskatchewan Operations. Vlad's major focus is to lead Primary's engineering offices in Regina and Saskatoon by providing outstanding services to our clients.
Vice President, Alberta Construction
Mr. Pullyblank joined Primary in 2014 as Senior Construction Manager, and recently became Vice President, Alberta Construction. Don oversees the operation, maintenance and construction of complex distribution systems within Alberta. With over 33 years in the utility industry, he has held a variety of positions of increasing responsibility, leading, developing and managing multi-faceted utility projects. Don is Journeyman Power Line Technician with broad management experience.
With strong leadership capabilities and a broad scope of experience and expertise, Don has the unique ability to adapt to his working environment, whether it's at a work site or in the office. He is recognized by colleagues and customers as a trusted expert in the field, with a reputation for building and maintaining strong relationships.
JASON DE JESUS P. Eng.
Manager, Engineering Design Services, BC
With over 10 years experience, Jason knows how to guide complex projects to completion and facilitate collaboration across the entire project team. He is a leader in effective stakeholder consultation and engagement, and the interplay of multiple engineering disciplines as part of the design and construction process. This has helped him develop the ability to work with a diverse range of client groups, consultants and contractors to oversee any project through all stages of execution.
His project highlights include various overhead and underground electrical distribution systems for multiple utility stakeholders, along with the CrossIron Mills subdivision (Rocky View County) and the Deerfoot North commercial area (Calgary Airport Authority), which was the first subdivision to boast large-scale LED street lighting within the City of Calgary.
JONATHAN PALMER P. Eng., MBA
Manager, Saskatoon Operations
Jonathan graduated from the University of British Columbia with a Bachelor of Applied Science in Electrical Engineering. Jonathan first joined Primary in 2010 to support the design and planning team in Kelowna, BC. Originally from the Okanagan Valley, Jonathan and his wife are now fully immersed in Saskatoon. In 2012, he supported the SaskCrowns in pioneering the 4-party Turnkey program and in 2013 launched Primary's Saskatoon office. Jonathan has completed a Master of Business Administration through the Edwards School of Business while continuing to lead and grow the Saskatoon team of designers and drafters.
JAMES HOWELL CET
Director, Calgary Design Build
James joined Primary in 2005 and, with over ten years of experience in electrical distribution design, James brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise in managing a team within our Alberta Design Build division.
EDWARD LOPEZ P.L. (ENG.) Manager, Alberta Design
Edward joined Primary in 2010. With over a decade of experience in electrical design in both the oil & gas and utilities sector, Edward is able to lead the design team with his technical expertise and passion for customer service that is beyond expectation.
Edward has contributed to many complex designs that directly benefit the City of Calgary including being the Lead Designer for the Calgary Airport expansion high voltage projects. He holds a diploma in Electrical Engineering Technology and a Management Certificate from SAIT. He also has been granted Professional Licensee status with APEGA.
JORDAN GOLDTHORP Manager, Edmonton Operations
Jordan is a task-driven project manager with a strong propensity for superior customer service. He has operated for two years under BC Hydro’s Customer Build program, working to deliver solid URD turnkey solutions to developers and advocating on their behalf with local municipalities and utilities. Jordan's specialties include: Railways Signals and Communications, Distribution Planning and oilfield research and product development. Jordan joined Primary in 2015 after a year as a field engineer in oil-well services and industrial motor and VFD applications.
In the spring of 2017 Jordan returned to Edmonton to take on the task of opening Primary’s new branch office and building a team capable of delivering superior EPCM services to developers and local utilities.
JESSE SPRING P. Eng.
Manager, Kelowna Operations
Jesse is an alumnus of the University of Calgary where he obtained a B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering.
He is a highly organized professional engineer accredited in both B.C. and Alberta. He has designed, planned and been the Engineer of Record for overhead and underground electrical distribution systems for several publicly owned utilities and private customers.
His ability to resolve difficult problems while maintaining a positive attitude is infectious and as Manager, Kelowna Operations, his leadership and management skills have bolstered Primary's Kelowna Office.
GEOFF COSTIN P.Eng.
Manager, Victoria Operations
Born and raised on Vancouver Island, Geoff joined Primary in 2011 from a background in electrical consulting specializing in roadway lighting and transportation.
Participating in BC Hydro's underground residential power distribution pilot project, Geoff continues to contribute to the evolution of the program now known as Customer-Build. In 2014, Geoff led a team to certify Primary under APEGBC's Organizational Quality Management (OQM) Program.
SABBIR AHMAD Ph.D., P.Eng., SMIEEE
Director, Project Delivery
Sabbir has more than 22 years of progressive experience in leadership of Engineering, Project Management and Business Operations mainly for the utility infrastructures in Asia, Europe, and North America. He led the establishment of a Distribution Group for Amec Foster Wheeler in 2013 and grew it from a few people to a team of over 100 professionals in 2016, delivering projects and programs for distribution system improvement and customer connections, integrated projects, and end-of-life asset replacements.
Sabbir provides leadership through his abilities in strategic thinking, decision making, project/risk management and resource management complemented by strong technical skills and interests. He has joined the leadership team of Primary as the Director, Project Delivery in the spring of 2017.
MATT HOWELL Manager, Construction
Matt Howell is a born and raised Calgarian with a strong construction background and a vast knowledge of the powerline industry. As a trusted expert in the powerline industry, Matt has developed many strong relationships with colleagues, suppliers and clients. Joining Primary in 2011 as a Construction Supervisor, Matt showed strong leadership traits and was promoted to Construction Manager in 2014. Managing the daily operations of complex underground distribution projects, he strives to deliver quality projects on time and budget, with a strong focus on outstanding customer service. Matt’s educational background in Civil Engineering and Construction Management has been the perfect complement for leadership roles though out his career and his management approach makes it easy to direct daily construction operations safely and efficiently.
STEVE HENDERSON PLT
Steve graduated from the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology with a Journeyman Powerline Technician Certificate. He started his apprenticeship with Primary Engineering and Construction/JLT in the fall of 2007 and has been with us for ten years. He is now a third-generation Journeyman Red Seal Powerline Technician with ten years of experience in the powerline industry. Steve demonstrates strong leadership and mentorship skills, along with a wealth of knowledge and experience in constructing, upgrading and maintaining underground and overhead utility distribution systems. In addition, he is safety oriented and driven to provide a safe working environment for all employees. Steve lives in High River and works out of our Calgary construction office.
TYLER FENTON Manager, Fleet & Field Services
Tyler is a born and raised Albertan with more than 15 years of experience in the underground utility construction industry. He began his career as a labourer, and has worked his way up as an Operator, Foreman, Construction Supervisor and is currently the Manager of Fleet and Field Services at Primary’s Construction Office. As the Manager of Fleet, Tyler is responsible for procuring equipment and vehicles, as well as managing our fleet maintenance program. As the Manager of Field Services, Tyler uses the experience he has gained from managing large and small utility construction projects to find and hire the right people to build successful field crews.
MARK GEDDES Manager, Health & Safety
Mark is a focused leader who was born and raised in Alberta, Canada. His experience includes 10 years shared in the oil & gas and utility industries, with the last six focused on health and safety. Mark is the Health and Safety Manager for Primary Engineering and Construction Corporation and oversees the successful implementation of Primary’s health and safety program across Canada. He is also certified as a National Construction Safety Officer.
